Ground Radar Scan Prior to Sawcut - Estes Park, CO

Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, Inc. of Denver, CO was contacted by a general contractor to scan a concrete slab inside a dentist office in Estes Park, CO. prior to saw cutting. The contractor at this site was getting ready to do a remodel of an operating room inside a dentist office and was needing to cut the floor in order to do some of this work. The rest of the dentist office was in operation along with a doctor’s office that was connected in the same building. They wanted to make sure they weren’t going to cut through any power and shut down the remaining dentist office or even the doctor’s office next door. The image below shows the laminate wood over the concrete floor that we performed the scanning on prior to the sawcut. As you can see from the picture we were able to mark out the power conduit for the floor box with the depth of that specific conduit so the contractor can cut up to it and chip around it without affecting anything else. The benefit of having this floor scanned prior to saw cutting gives everyone a peace of mind that power will not be lost to the rest of the office and we are able to map everything out directly on the surface so everyone is well aware of what is in the slab. Along with using a GSSI 1600 MHz antenna for the scanning, we also use a 7000 RD utility locating wand which will pick up live power running below the slab. With the use of the two methods we have a really good chance of locating everything that runs through the slab to ensure everyone’s safety and that the facility will not be without power.

Ground Radar Scan Prior to Sawcut - Estes Park, CO

Ground Penetrating Radar is ideal on a busy construction site as well as a place of occupancy. GPR does not require evacuation of the area as does traditional “x-ray” concrete imaging. GPR emits no radiation and is completely safe to be around. Traditional “x-ray” is mostly done after hours; GPR can be done during normal business hours. All data findings are marked directly on the surface at the customer’s request for the easiest interpretation of the scanning provided, with GPR there is no wait for developing films as with traditional “x-ray”. Only one side of the slab is needed for scanning so time and resources are much more ideal for tight schedules of projects. Ground Penetrating Radar is the new way to “x-ray”!
